The Chargers announced the trade of safety Antoine Bethea to the Indianapolis Colts. In exchange, the Colts sent the Chargers guard A.J.Cann and their 2018 fourth round pick.
Trade to be confirmed by Bob Durfee of the Colts.
The Chargers Hank Sienzant said after the trade was consummated, "This deal shores up a weakness along our offensive line by giving us a young, well-regarded offensive lineman in exchange for a veteran safety at a position we were very deep at. In addition, it gives us an additional pick in next year's rookie draft that we can utilize to acquire additional young talent.
"It also gives the Colts veteran depth behind their starting safeties, Morgan Burnett and Ron Parker. It was well-known that the Colts didn't want to enter the season with only untested rookie Jayron Kearse behind those two. The acquisition of Bethea solves that problem by shoring up a potential problem spot with a veteran safety who can still play at a high level.
"This is a classic deal that helps both clubs."
